What means truancy in Ecuador?

Nowadays many teenagers are truant but many of them don’t know the real mean so according to (Cde.ca.gov, 2017): “The California Legislature defined a truant in very precise language. In summary, it states that a student missing more than 30 minutes of instruction without an excuse three times during the school year must be classified as a truant and reported to the proper school authority”. With this definition we can say that be a truant is when someone pretend to go to the school but then they decide don’t go without any reason.

Situation of truancy in Ecuador
In our country, Ecuador, exist one term that define truancy, this term was used by our parents even our grandparents and the word is Pava. The term pava is widely used to distinguish students from missing classes without any reason, to this type of people they are given the name of truancy. The term truancy focuses on students who do not attend classes and one of the very common cases that can be presented as examples for this is what happens with the students of the fiscal schools in Ecuador.
The current situation in Ecuador with the majority of the students of the fiscal schools or recognized for their low academic performance is that Most of their learners tend to be influenced by the need to be recognized or accepted by others. Therefore, adolescents try to change their way of being and adapt to the environment in which they develop It is for that reason in schools Like "guayaquil", "28 de mayo" , "Vicente rocafuerte"  among others, are recognized not for their academic level but rather for the fame that their students have given by escaping from their institutions and generally attending shopping centers as "Mall del sur", "Riocentro sur", "Riocentro norte", Sanarino, etc.
The principal causes of being a truant are: Victimization by school bullies, teachers, or school staff, fear of school, family issues, like abuse and neglect, or obligations to care for parents or younger siblings, mental health issues, like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which are sometimes punished instead of treated, and can force youth to leave school.

As a conclusion for this topic, first of all, we can say that we already know the meaning of Truancy, and how important is its impact in the society. This is a thing that have been with the human since he started to study in an institution, making this a tendency in all the schools around the world. Even in our country (Ecuador), as it was mentioned before, the terminology that the Ecuadorian people use for truant students is “La Pava”, explaining that in every single country when we could find scholar institute, is possible to discover some students that do not want to stay there and do something else, making think to their parents that they are in school. So, for learning, it could be said that if we sacrifice something now, we could be reward in the future, taking this “sacrifice” as the time that we need to study; but if we do not care about of this I during our youth, we probably regret it later.
